Our story

Having led a somewhat nomadic existence, Elizabeth Warner’s life has been spent roaming the globe in constant pursuit of adventure. After growing up  between New York, Kenya and Spain, at sixteen she embarked upon a successful modelling career, which took her to Milan, Paris and LA. When love brought her back to Kenya, she embarked upon a remarkable venture creating Shompole, Kenya’s most glamorous lodge that lay nestled in the wilderness on the edge of the Great Rift Valley.

It was here in this dramatic setting that Maasai Collections was founded. Inspired by the beautifully crafted beadwork of the Maasai women, Elizabeth turned her sights onto fashion and accessory design, working within the community of the Maasai Tribe to create exotic pieces of clothing, accessories and jewelry using indigenous artistry but with a chic spin.

Maasai Collections was soon to attract attention, gaining a loyal following of buyers and with various international publications featuring her designs. Her signature piece, the beaded cuff bracelet, has been worn by celebrities including Keira Knightly and Princess Charlotte of Monaco.

Currently Elizabeth divides her time between Kenya and the US with her adopted Kenyan daughter, working between her studio in Litchfield, CT and her workshop in Nairobi. Still continuing her life's theme of being on the road, Elizabeth's designs have taken further inspirations from places she has spent time in such as Nepal and India.

Spirited, exotic and artfully crafted, our collection offers an authentic and colourful glimpse into the culture and customs of the Maasai women in Kenya. The brand features a continual pairing of distinctive materials from Africa with sophisticated high-end fashion designs, creating a truly unique and stylish take on tribal design— from the traditional kanga beaded shukas to our metal beadwork on suede bags.
